An endocrinologist is a physician who specialises in the management of a range of hormonal and metabolic disorders. These include conditions affecting hormone-producing glands throughout the body.

Michael has a keen interest in all aspects of endocrinology including:

  • Diabetes: Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Parathyroid disease and disorders of calcium metabolism
  • Adrenal disease
  • Pituitary disease
  • Osteoporosis and bone health
  • Male reproductive disorders including low testosterone and fertility issues
  • Female reproductive conditions including polycystic ovarian syndrome and management of issues around the time of menopause

Michael has a special interest and expertise in the management of thyroid conditions. He has published on thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer and has an ongoing research interest in this area.

He has extensive experience managing a range of thyroid disorders including:

  • Autoimmune thyroid disease including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease
  • Hyper and hypothyroidism (over and underactivity) related to autoimmune disease and other conditions affecting the thyroid gland
  • Thyroid disease in pregnancy and postpartum
  • Thyroid nodules and goitre
  • Thyroid cancer including complex and advanced cases
